What exactly is infused water? It is when fruits, vegetables, spices, and other additives are added into potable water so that its nutrients can be distributed into the water which can then be absorbed by the body.

Not only is infused water tasty, but healthy as well! It’s a good alternative to unhealthy drinks such as sodas.

Infused water helps reduce bloating due to water retention. It also helps flush out any toxins that are stored in the body. It’s a natural way to slim down the belly and improve the digestive tract.

Here is a list of fruits that can be used in your water:

Cucumber: Has anti-inflammatory properties and is a good source of Vitamin A, Pantothenic Acid, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Manganese, and a very good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Potassium.

Strawberry: Has anti-inflammatory properties and can also reduce your risk of cancer due to its anthocyanins and ellagic acid. It’s a good source of Folate and Potassium, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C and Manganese.

Lemon: Cleanses our digestive tract with its citric acid. It’s also a good source of Folate, Potassium, and Vitamin C which aids the immune system with our defenses.

Oranges: Similar to the lemon, its citric acid helps cleanse the digestive tract. It helps protect the body against fungi and bacteria. It is a good source of Thiamin, Folate Potassium, Dietary Fiber, and Vitamin C which aids our immune system.

Mint: Used in teas for its soothing properties for stomach aches. It’s a good source of Protein, Thiamin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Phosphorus, Zinc, Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Riboflavin, Folate, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.

 

Other fruits or spices that can be used include: Lime, Green tea, Kiwi, Acai, blueberries, Basil, Watermelon, Cilantro, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Grapefruit, Raspberry, Rose petal, Vanilla, Honey, Lavender, Cantaloupe, Honeydew, Coconut, Mango, and Pineapples!

Fresh vs Frozen Fruits: Which is most nutritious?

Fruits are a colorful part of everyone’s diet. They are high in fiber, water, vitamin C, and sugars. Fruits contains many “sugars” such as fructose, which is one of the building blocks in maintaining the structural and functional integrity in the body. Fruits contain carbohydrates, which is one of the primary sources of energy for all cells. This may explain why fruits such as bananas are eaten as a pre-workout meal. It gives the body the fuel needed for the stress it undergoes while exercising. Bananas contain several health benefits as I explain here.

However, there is a question that many people have been wondering: Are fresh fruits more nutritious than frozen foods?

The honest answer is that it depends on the circumstances. However, frozen fruits tend to have more nutritional value than fresh fruits. There are several differences between fresh and frozen foods.

Fresh fruits that are sent to markets are usually picked while it is under ripe to avoid damage while it is sent out to different locations. This means that when the fruits are picked, they have not reached its peak nutrition. During the packaging and travel time, the nutritional content of the fruits begins to deteriorate. It takes several days for the fruits to reach their destinations. When a person purchases the fruit, it may sit in the refrigerator for even more days until it is finally eaten.

On the other hand, frozen fruit is picked when it has reached its peak nutritional value and are immediately frozen thereafter. Although freezing the fruit may lead to the loss of some of its vitamins, most of the nutrition is essentially locked in. Frozen fruits can be found to be cheaper than fresh fruits, especially at times when the fruits are not in season.

Frozen fruits can be seen as a healthy and more economic alternative to fresh fruits. However, nothing can beat purchasing organic fruits from a local farmers market where they are picked and sold on the same day, or picking fruits from your own garden.

How much water should YOU be drinking daily?

Although water has no calories or organic nutrients, it is vital for every human being. Water is an essential part of the metabolic processes in the human body. Without it, a person can become dehydrated which can lead to several health complications.

Good hydration can avoid several things such as headaches, cramps, and fatigue. It also helps hair grow longer, helps skin regain moisture, and will give your face a glowing appearance!

There is a simple way to figure out the minimum amount of water that you should be drinking per day.
Simply divide your weight by two and the equation will give you the minimum amount of ounces that you should be drinking per day. That’s it! It’s simple.

For example, if you weigh around 100 lbs, you should be drinking about 50 ounces of water per day. That is the equivalent of about 2 liters.However, for people who are very active such as people who go to the gym or who are involved in sports, more water should be taken to stay hydrated.

But Ivy, how do I know for sure if I’m being hydrated enough?”
When I was running with my cross country team and competing every weekend with other teams, one of the ways that I learned to check if I was hydrated enough was to check my pee. Seriously! We were required to check in with the physical therapists and our trainers for any sprains, strains, or soreness, and they would always emphasize that we hydrate ourselves properly. Right outside of the office there was a big urine color chart for everyone to see.

Basically, if your pee looks like #1 (which is almost as clear as water), then you’re hydrated!

If your pee looks like apple juice like #4, then you’re a bit dehydrated and should be drinking more water.

Anything that resembles the last three numbers means that you are very dehydrated and may even have an infection. If your pee looks like #8, you most likely have a kidney infection!

Drinking water is very important in everyone’s lives. Instead of drinking sodas and drinks that are packed with sugar, drink water instead! Your body will thank you for it!

Healthy Pancakes Using Only Two Ingredients!

Eating a nutritious diet is essential for our overall health and well being. Incorporating fruits and vegetables in your diet can help you obtain all of those vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Bunch of bananas

Before I post the pancake recipe, here are some fun facts about bananas!

Bananas help fight depression. They are packed with Tryptophan which is an essential amino acid for the human body. When ingested, the Tryptophan is then converted to serotonin which is a neurotransmitter in the brain known to lift mood levels.

Bananas are great to eat as a pre-workout snack! It’ll give you energy and sustain your blood sugar.

Ladies! Bananas are helpful with PMS and cramps. It also helps fight against osteoporosis by counteracting calcium loss and helps builds strong bones. This is essential for us since studies have shown that women are at a higher risk of suffering from osteoporosis than men.

Bananas are a natural antacid which helps against GERD, acid reflux, and heartburn.

Bananas help you feel more alert due to its high levels of potassium. Eat a banana in the morning rather than drinking coffee or eat a banana before an exam and you’ll be good to go!

And here it is! The two ingredient pancake recipe!

All you need is:
1 Banana
1 Whole Egg

That’s it! Mash the banana, mix the two ingredients using a blender, put your pan on low heat, spray some Pam on your pan and pour on some of the batter! Wait a minute or two, flip the pancake and you’re done!
It is super easy and super yummy!

Also, instead of using syrup, I would suggest using a bit of honey instead. It’s a natural sweetener which is a better alternative as opposed to syrups that contains high levels of fructose which can cause obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
